The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe Consists of the stele field designed by Peter Eisenman "The memory of the Holocaust can never be nostalgia" The project shows the instability inherent in a system with an apparently rational structure and the potential for its gradual dissolution. It shows that a purely rational and orderly system loses reference to human reason if it becomes too large and grows beyond its originally intended proportions. Its mass, weight and density seem to weigh heavily on the individual and take him in. Through the spatial organization of the place of information, the stele of the stele field are expanded into the place and create a persistent state of reflection and contemplation inside. The National Memorial for Peace and Justice The National Memorial for Peace and Justice was constructed to memorialise the history of not only lynching incidents, but the terror and trauma this sanctioned violence against the black community created, in an effort to reshape the cultural landscape with monuments and memorials that more truthfully and accurately reflect the history. The Memorial for Peace and Justice was conceived with the hope of creating a sober, meaningful site where people can gather and reflect on America’s history of racial inequality EJI partnered with artists like Kwame Akoto-Bamfo whose sculpture on slavery confronts visitors when they first enter the memorial. EJI then leads visitors on a journey from slavery, through lynching and racial terror, with text, narrative, and monuments to the lynching victims in America.
